So I returned home from five days camping on the coast, to find that my Day Trippin’ lens about Smith Rock State Park had been awarded a purple star. I like the color purple, but I really like that purple star. Thanks to whoever submitted the lens. I appreciate the Attagirl, because it was fun sharing one of my favorite spots with all of you.

This Day Trippin’ series has just begun. If you like traveling by proxy, stay tuned. I have two WIP lenses waiting in the wings…one on Crater Lake, and the other on the coastal region.  I took this sunset photo at Heceta Head around 8:20 p.m.

Glad to be back, and I’m eager to catch up on Squidlog and also check out new lenses that launched while I was away.

Anticipation

Monday, April 6th, 2009

I’ve been anticipating Spring for months. I could almost smell the sunshine-warmed earth even when snow still frosted our valley and March mornings welcomed us with icy windshields. Sometime during my bout with the flu, Winter danced away and Spring settled into my backyard.

In celebration of Spring, I’ve updated a lens that showcases some of my favorite nature photos. My Zazzle Gallery Showcase is so much more than a lens about a Squidoo-Zazzle connection. It’s a snapshot of my passionate love for nature photography, and a call to take a closer look at your own little corner of the world. I chose samples of my photomontage work to whet your appetite for the outdoors, and to share how photography isn’t just photography anymore. For every photo, there’s the possibility of making art beyond the snap of a shutter.

Enjoy my new collection of art…and get out there and enjoy the beauty of Spring for yourself!

Intersections of History

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

I grew up in a household that appreciated history. I always imagined history like a series of roads similar to the rural roads that wound and intersected in the region of northern California where I lived. Along each road marched people who had influenced our world.

Some were a part of the literary world, like William Shakespeare, Louisa May Alcott, William Blake, or Emily Dickinson. Others were kings, inventors, presidents, and military figures. All met at the intersection of my spot in Time, and disappeared into the folds of history.

One reason I like Squidoo’s new Twttrstrm is because I can ask a question that interests me, and  receive responses from a wide variety of locations. It’s a fantastic tool (thanks, Squidoo!) for asking advice, staging a debate, or gathering information for a certain topic. It’s the fastest way I know of to poll hundreds of people at once.  Here are the Twitterstorms  I’ve run so far:

If you don’t use Twitter, you’re missing out. Not only is Twitter a quick way to keep in touch with friends (called “followers” in Tweet language), it’s one of the best writer’s and lensmaster’s tools I know. TwitterStorm is icing on the cake…raisins in the oatmeal…chocolate syrup on ice cream.

Blame it on Squidoo

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

Squidoo should come with a disclaimer: Enter at your own risk. We cannot be held responsible for absentmindedness, hyperactivity, insomnia, or repetitive-module stress injury.

Let’s face it. Life changes drastically when you discover Squidoo. Things happen…things that can only be blamed on Squidoo. And that’s the topic of Blame it on Squidoo, my latest lens, which was hatched late Friday night as the result of a conversation I had with a friend today.

We were discussing age, and how we notice little brain shifts. Shifts that affect our concentration and our creativity. We laughed about the little things like forgetfulness and shuddered at the more serious brain fogs that shall go unmentioned in this blog. :::ahem:::

If you’re a crazy-creative lensmaster who has trouble remembering where Squidoo began and where your life left off, this lens is worth a visit. Call it therapy if you like. Even if you’re not (a crazy-creative lensmaster…stay with me here), you can visit it anyway and shake your head in pity. Especially if you’re young, like the person who answered my “Where Were You in 1987?” TwitterStorm with the reply that in 1987, she was “probably still kicking boys in the shin.”

Happy weekend, everyone!

Well, Whaddaya Know…

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Have you ever followed the dots to create a dot-to-dot of your Squidoo experience so far? I did that recently, beginning with my first lens ever, Backyard Makeover: Before & After , and ending with my discovery that this simple Seedplanter’s Porch blog is listed at #31 on PotPieGirl’s Top 100 Squidoo blogs.

And how did I know that?  Because I Twitter, that’s how. (See the dot-to-dot progression?) And this morning I couldn’t sleep, so I rolled out of bed at 4 a.m. and checked out what had happened in Twitterdom while I zzz-zzed.  There sat a tweet from Cap’n Squid, with the news that he had made #1 on that list. Sadly, my brain can’t split in a million directions, so I had not heard about the list.

So I swam through murky waters like a hungry Squidette and found the list, and began uh-huhing and grinning at the names I recognized–all so deserving of the honor. Then I saw Seedplanter’s Porch and went “HUH?”  I came an inch from slapping myself silly. Could not believe this Squidooer of five months was on anybody’s list, let alone that one!

Thank you, PotPieGirl. It’s an honor to be included on the list, and it says a lot about the people who have encouraged me as I learned the ropes of lens building. I still feel like that newbie who didn’t know what all the acronyms meant, but I must be doing something right.

It’s a nice way to begin a Monday.
