Cooking Disasters I Lived to Tell About
No decent cook in her right mind sets out to create a trail of disasters. Who would intentionally add a tablespoon of salt instead of (whoops!) sugar to a recipe…or flip a banana cream pie while removing it from the oven…or accidentally substitute red-hot jalapeno peppers for green chiles in her favorite chicken enchiladas recipe?
And that’s only the beginning.
When I set out to create my fiftieth Squidoo lens, I had lots of ideas circulating. The harder I thought, the hazier each topic became. Then bingo! I thought of a terrible holiday meal I botched many years ago, and that was it. I had my topic.
I’ve been racing toward the home stretch for the past two weeks, wondering if I’d make the December 31 cutoff to be considered in the new batch of Giant Squids.
GS status isn’t the most important thing, but I do like icing on my cake. Regardless, it’s satisfying to know that I reached this first fifty, because it’s a number that sounded nearly impossible four months ago when I discovered Squidoo.
I am in debt to so many of you who took me under your wing and explained the acronyms, the tools, and the overall concept behind lenscrafting. I appreciate your amazing creativity, too. It’s an awesome group–no two of you think or work exactly alike. Just when I think I’ve found my favorite lens, along comes another.
Wish me well. Tomorrow I begin lens #51. In the meantime, I would ♥ to hear about your own memorable cooking disasters, either recently or years ago. Or, if you have a brief story about a friend or relative who wowed you with a kitchen fiasco, please send it my way. I’ll be adding to the lens in the days ahead. Thanks!
